Léonie Couture: Herstreet is an organization that offers aid and shelter to homeless women in Montreal.

We operate 3 shelters. Desjardins became involved with Herstreet during the fundraising campaign for the third shelter, the Maison Jacqueline.

All of our activities, from therapy, to counselling, choir and art classes, are used for rehabilitation.

Ultimately, Herstreet's purpose is to help women get back on their feet and start over.

Ginette Girard: In 2006, I lost everything—my home, my dignity. I didn't have a dollar to my name.

I had nowhere to go. I was out on the street, so I called Herstreet.

I came here in 2007. I was so sick and exhausted. It took me 2 years to get over my depression. Then I started eating healthy and doing activities. I felt good. I was ready to start living again. In 2009, I took up painting and photography, and eventually joined the choir.

I didn't feel like I was in a shelter, I felt like I was home surrounded by family.

Herstreet saved me. Now I have a new lease on life!
