Narrator: The Centre now has over 110 dedicated volunteers who help provide services and keep the store running, which provides the organization's primary own-source revenue.

Jacqueline Verville: I come from a big family, and everybody did their bit. In the 1940s, it wasn't a matter of "volunteering." Everyone did their share. At the time, everybody in the family did something.

Narrator: Sometimes, volunteering stems from a deep sense of vocation. And sometimes it gives purpose to life.

Jacqueline Verville: A ruptured aneurysm nearly killed me. At age 43, I was at the general hospital in Sherbrooke. Getting healthy again was worth it! The chaplain told me I was a walking miracle!

Narrator: Another volunteer living life to the fullest is the friendly Alain.

Alain Perreault: Hi, I'm Alain Perreault from Warwick.

Narrator: Alain recently got involved at the Centre. His life hasn't always been easy.
A few years ago, health problems prompted him to move to Warwick, where his father lived. He'd found out he had a tumour on his left kidney and needed surgery. Now he's philosophical about it and can laugh.

Alain Perreault: At one point, I weighed 220 pounds. I was eating cakes and stuff like that. I'm lucky not to have diabetes or high cholesterol.

Narrator: When we discuss his new status as a volunteer with him, it's clear how much he benefits from being around other people.

Alain Perreault: I'd never done any volunteering. This is good. I'm comfortable with people I didn't know. We enjoy working together.
