FAQ

What's an everyday account?

The everyday account is practical for your day-to-day transactions, like depositing your paycheque, making purchases and transferring funds.

Your everyday account is eligible for member dividends 12  if your caisse distributes them.

What is the difference between an everyday account and a chequing account?

There's no difference between our everyday account and a chequing account. Personal Chequing Account is the old name for our Everyday Transaction Account. You use the everyday account to do your day-to-day transactions, like paycheque deposits, money transfers, ATM withdrawals, debit card purchases and cheques.

Can I open an account at a Desjardins caisse before moving to Canada?

Yes, you can open an account at a Desjardins caisse before moving to Canada. Read our Preparing to live in Canada page to plan your next steps and find the offer that best meets your needs.

Why pay for a $5 qualifying share?

Since each caisse is a cooperative, when you open your first account in a caisse you must pay a $5 qualifying share to become a member. Membership means you have access to our services and can participate in the caisse's democratic life, for example by voting at general meetings. If you open an account in a different caisse, you'll have to pay a new qualifying share.

It's not an account opening fee. If you close the account, we will reimburse your $5.

What is considered a transaction?

Withdrawals, payments and certain types of transfers count as transactions.

How can I make sure my account is secure?

We take the security of your account and your personal information very seriously. Find out how to sharpen your cybersecurity reflexes and discover the features you can activate to enhance your account security, like 2-step verification or security alerts, on our Security page.
